Frequently asked questions

Release and pricing

Where Steward stands today.

When will Steward be available?

There’s no release date yet. Steward is keeping the books of its first nonprofit through a full year of real use first. Leave your email with Notify me and we’ll send you one message when it’s released.

How much will it cost?

Pricing will be announced at launch.

The app

Who it’s for and what it needs.

Who is Steward for?

Volunteer treasurers of small US nonprofits, especially those without an accounting background. It was built first for a 501(c)(3) that files the 990-N e-Postcard.

Do I need to know accounting?

No. The Beginner view talks about money in and money out, with no debits, credits or account codes, and every accounting idea has a plain-English explanation. Underneath, Steward keeps proper double-entry books, and an Accountant view shows them.

Which Macs will it run on?

Macs with Apple silicon, running macOS 14 or later.

Where is our data kept?

In one file per organization on your Mac, with automatic backups in a folder beside it. Steward never stores bank logins, and a full export with a data dictionary means your records are never locked in.
