After transcription, Extract sends the transcript text to Anthropic’s Claude with your own API key. It comes back as four lists and a subject line, and nothing is saved until you’ve reviewed it.
What you get
- Vocabulary: words and phrases you taught or a student asked about.
- Corrections: student errors you corrected.
- Pronunciation: words whose pronunciation you worked on.
- Grammar: grammar points you covered.
- Subject line: the bold line under the date, such as
6A Reading & Grammar pg 31-32orConversation: Czech Scouting.
The extraction skips advanced words that came up in conversation but weren’t taught. Each extraction shows what it cost.
Edit before you save
In Review & Edit you can edit, reorder, add and delete items, and move an item to another list. A subject line is required before you save or publish.
Re-extract
Re-extract runs the extraction again on the saved transcript with your current prompt and replaces the items below it. Your audio and transcript aren’t touched. It works as long as the transcript is still kept, so keep transcripts if you expect to use it.
Improve the prompt
Edit the extraction prompt in Settings›Extraction. Earlier versions are kept, and you can reset to the default. Each class can add its own guidance on top, starting from a template, and the class settings show a preview of the combined prompt.
If extraction fails
- No API key: add one in Settings›Extraction.
- Anthropic is busy: Classroom Diaries retries on its own, up to four times, before showing the error on the lesson’s row.
- Nothing came back: check the transcript. If the recording had no speech, the app tells you.
