Publish a lesson to Google Docs

How Publish places an entry in a class Doc, what Re-Publish changes, and how to disconnect your Google account.

3-minute read Applies to Classroom Diaries 1.15.2 Updated

Publishing adds one lesson entry to the class’s Google Doc. You need to be signed in with Google (Settings›Google Docs) and the class needs its Doc address in its settings.

Publish

Click Publish on a reviewed lesson. The entry goes in at its date, among your existing entries, as:

  • the date as a heading,
  • the bold subject line,
  • vocabulary in aligned columns, then pronunciation, corrections and grammar, each in its own colour.

Before writing, the app reads only the headings in the Doc, to find the right place and to check for an entry with the same date. It stops rather than publish the same date twice.

Re-Publish

On a lesson you’ve already published, the button becomes Re-Publish. It replaces that one entry in place. Nothing else in the Doc is read, rewritten or removed.

Cancelled classes

Use Cancellation on the class to record a class that didn’t happen as “Canceled Early” or “Canceled Late”. Leave the checkbox ticked to publish it to the Doc in the same step.

Without Google

Everything except publishing works without a Google account. Copy puts the formatted entry on the clipboard to paste wherever you like.

Disconnect Google

Disconnect in Settings›Google Docs, or at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Disconnecting deletes the stored tokens from your Keychain. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what the app does with your Google account.
